WHAT TO DO AT FLORENCE AIRPORT (FLR)

Restaurants & Cafés

Briciole Bar - Departures Area

Briciole Bar is a favourite spot for Italian fare, which also serves pastries and sandwiches along with great coffee. At the departure gates, this place is great for those who need to catch a flight out but want a taste of Italy first. The best -- their cappuccino and fresh cornetti -- do not leave home before trying these. The atmosphere is very cozy inside, with warm Tuscan inspired interiors and a relaxing feel. Perfect as a pre-flight pit stop.

MyChef Restaurant - Main Terminal

This restaurant is a mix of what you will find in Italy and the Mediterranean, which is great for travellers in need of a full meal before they hit the road. We are landside, which makes us easy to access for arriving passengers or those who do an early check-in. Also, we are known for our local pasta dishes and salads. We have a quick service which we have designed with your travel schedule in mind. We cater for both family and business travellers.

Caffè Pascucci - Airside

A contemporary café which features specialty coffee, light snacks, and desserts. We have what travellers are looking for in a quiet setting to recharge their devices while they enjoy a warm drink. Also, our tiramisu and espresso blends are very popular. It’s located post-security near the boarding area. A good stop for both short and long waits.

Shops & Lifestyle Stores

Duty Free - Airside

At the airport’s main duty-free shop, you’ll find perfumes, skincare, alcohol, confectionery and Tuscan delicacies. Very organised, which also allows travellers to get around it efficiently at peak times. They have a wide range, which includes international brands as well as premium Italian products like Chianti wine. Staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. It’s a must for last-minute gifts.

Marina Militare - Fashion Store

A small-scale Italian casual wear which draws from naval themes. We have excellent quality that in turn makes it a hit with travellers, for that is at once fine and functional. In the landside retail area, you can easily get to before security. The brand is a take on Italian craft. Known for men’s wear.

Tosca Blu - Leather Accessories

This store has an array of beautiful bags, wallets, and accessories that live up to the quality that Italy is known for in terms of fine leather work. In the airside location, it is very easy for travellers who are after the real Florentine touch. The shop also features rare editions and seasonal collections. Our staff are on hand to give style advice. It is a hit with fashion-savvy travellers.

Lounges & Relax Spots

Masaccio Lounge - Departures (Airside)

The Masaccio Lounge is the main premium lounge for FLR, which we note offers very comfortable seating as well as food and drink options and workspaces. Access is for business class passengers, Priority Pass members, or through AirportAssist. This lounge also serves as a quiet retreat from the terminal’s bustle, which in turn has very good Wi-Fi and power outlets. Also reported to be very clean and quiet. Great for either relaxing or being productive.

Other Activities

  • Small children’s play zone
  • Reading & relaxation corners
  • Premium boutique browsing
  • Art-inspired décor reflecting Florence’s heritage.
  • Ample areas to sit out during delays.

Duty-Free Shopping

Duty-free at Florence Airport is a refined reflection of what this region has to offer in terms of culture and elegance. Passengers may peruse a choice range of fragrances, skincare, chocolates, Italian leather goods, and also the best in Tuscany’s wine. The duty-free store is designed to be an open and inviting space that does not rush travellers as they shop. Our staff are very attentive and will put forward recommendations on local products like olive oil and various skin care, or perhaps bring to your attention the best in Chianti. No matter if you are looking for that special something for a high-end gift or just a last-minute treat, at FLR’s duty-free, you will find a mix of style, convenience and that very Florentine touch.

Ground Transportation Guide

Florence Airport reports a very efficient transport system, which makes getting into the city centre or to nearby Tuscany towns a cinch. The T2 Tram is by far the most popular, and we think it is also the best option. It runs often and in no time at all brings you to Florence’s Santa Maria Novella station. Taxis, which you will find at the exit of the terminal, have set prices for travel into the city centre and are a quick and sure-fire way to get around. For those going to out-of-the-way hotels in restricted areas or heading out to Siena, Pisa, Lucca or the Chianti region, we recommend private transfers. And of course, we also have car rental, which is great for seeing the Tuscan vineyards and the rural areas. The small size of the airport also means that transit times are very short and easy to manage.

Suggested Layover Itineraries

3-Hour Layover

Between short connections, stay put in the airport and take an easy stress stress-free break. In the duty-free shop, check out the Italian wine and perfumes, then have a go at the coffee and pastries at Briciole Bar. For a quiet time, head to the Masaccio Lounge, which also has snacks and Wi-Fi. Spend time browsing Italian fashion or leather shops. The airport’s compact size allows you to move smoothly without rushing.

5-6 Hour Layover

With that short amount of time, take the T2 Tram into the heart of Florence for a quick cultural experience. Head to the Duomo square, walk the nearby streets, or stop at a local cafe for gelato. Back to the airport via the same tram, which also has the benefit of fast, non-stop travel. If you prefer to stay a while at the airport instead, relax in the lounge or have a meal at MyChef. Also, always allow at least 90 minutes before boarding for international flights.

8+ Hour Layover

A large layover, which is your chance to see what Florence has to offer. Take the tram into the city centre and check out must-see sites like the Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery outlying areas, or Santa Maria Novella. For lunch, try a local trattoria, which will give you a taste of Tuscany’s cuisine. Also, in the evening, do not leave out the bustling markets. If you are interested in going beyond the city limits, we have the option of taking a taxi or transfer to neighbouring towns such as Fiesole, which has great panoramic views. Return with ample buffer time through AirportAssist’s coordinated guidance.
